Dr Robert Ghanea-Hercock is a Chief Research Scientist at BT Laboratories, a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the British Computer Society. He is an experienced researcher and lecturer in a wide range of AI systems, including Software Agents, Security Systems and Defence Applications. He has over fifteen years industrial experience managing  research programmes in Intelligent Systems. Prior to this position he was a lecturer at Salford University, teaching courses in AI and Robotics.

His qualifications include a Ph.D. in Robotic systems from Salford University: an M.Sc. in Real-time Electronic Systems from Bradford University: and a First Class B.Sc. in Physics and Electronic Engineering. He has filed over fifteen international patents in the field of Software Agents and Security Architectures. His publications include over thirty papers in refereed journals and international conferences. He is an experienced consultant in the Defence sector and serves on the UK MoD Defence Science Advisory Council as an independent member.

In 2006 he was appointed Chair of the UK Cyber-Security Knowledge Transfer Network and sits on the Steering Committee of the Innovation Platform for Cyber Security.

He was also appointed as the first Business Research Fellow at the Santa Fe Institute, New Mexico, for work on Complex Systems, and is currently an Honorary Research Fellow at Imperial College, and Southampton University.
