European Conference on Complex Systems (ECCS ’07), Dresden 1st – 5th October 2007
The fourth European Conference on Complex Systems organised by the European Complex Systems
Society will be hosted this year by the Technische Universität Dresden. Last year's conference
was held in the Oxford (UK), and previous conferences were held in Torino (Italy) and Paris
(France). In 2007, this conference series continues in Dresden, Germany. Dresden and its
neighbourhood (Berlin, Leipzig, Prague, etc.) offer a superb scientific environment with many
highly regarded institutions, including the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex
Systems. So there should be ample opportunities to exchange ideas and get inspired. The goals
of this annual conference are to reflect recent progress in the field of complexity science
and to build up the active research community significantly.
ECCS '07 involves CABDyN in a number of different ways. CABDyN International Advisory Board
(IAB) Member Dirk Helbing is Chair of the Local Organising Committee for the conference, and
CABDyN Co-Director Neil Johnson will be giving one of the invited plenary talks on the subject
of "Complexity in Human Activity: Conflicts, Currencies and Crimes. CABDyN IAB Members Mark
Newman and Guy Theraulaz will be giving plenary talks on "Structure and function in complex
networks" and "Biological principles of swarm intelligence" respectively. CABDyN Co-Director
Felix Reed-Tsochas is a member of the European Complex Systems Society Conference Committee.
